Job Description of a Sandblaster

A sandblaster uses high-pressure equipment using steam or air to clean and prepare surfaces such as stone, metal or glass. These professionals are skilled in using a variety of sandblasting equipment.

Education

Most employers do not require specific education, but employment opportunities will improve with a high school diploma or GED.

Qualifications

Employers require at least three years of previous experience using sandblasting tools and equipment as well as knowledge of corrosion-control methods and processes.

Physical Requirements

Due to the nature of the job, almost all employers require candidates to pass a physician examination and drug screen, as well as the ability to lift or move over 75 pounds.

Responsibilities

Using sandblasting equipment, responsibilities include preparing or cleaning a variety of surfaces for the next step in a production or manufacturing process. Work is typically done on parts, pieces or constructed goods in preparation of painting.

Salary

In January 2010, Indeed.com lists a national average salary of $36,000 per year for these occupations.
