Interview for an Esthetician Job

Estheticians make their money by making their clients beautiful. These professionals give facials, provide massages and apply makeup to those who desire such services. When interviewing for a position of this type, provide evidence of your preparedness for the job. By highlighting your experience and explaining – or even demonstrating – what skills you possess, you can make yourself a standout candidate for a position of this type.

Obtain the necessary training. While not universally the case, in many states estheticians must be licensed to practice. Regardless of whether a license is mandatory in your state, obtaining training at a cosmetology school prior to heading out on the job market and applying for jobs of this type will likely prove helpful.

Compose a resume. Complete this resume prior to your interview so you have something to present to the interviewer. Keep the resume to a page or less and include only the experience most pertinent to the job for which you are applying.

Apply for esthetician openings. Fill out applications or send resumes, following the application guidelines created by the hiring company. This is almost always the first step in getting an interview.

Practice answering common interview questions. While you don’t know what specific questions the hiring official will ask you, you can make some educated guesses. You will likely be asked about your experience, your strengths and weaknesses and your flexibility. To ensure that you can answer these questions without stumbling, practice them prior to your interview.

Give high quality answers at your actual interview. The answers you present at your interview will have a major impact on whether or not you get the job you seek. Stay focused from interview start to finish, making reference to principles of esthetician work as often as you can.

Offer to demonstrate your skills. Some companies enjoy seeing an actual demonstration of what you can do, such as a sample makeup application. Even if you were not specifically asked to do so, you can offer to demonstrate your skill, showing the company your enthusiasm and eagerness.

Conclude by expressing your eagerness about the job once more. Though the individual interviewing you almost certainly knows that you are eager to get the job for which you applied, it is considerate to state your eagerness once more and thank the individual for taking the time to interview you.
